Today’s /\/\|_|+\/\/ Rewind is not too far of a stretch back. “The Last Fit (Was Electric)” is from The Wolf’s new album Before The Long Night Comes. For those of you who know the group, either personally or via the interweb, you know this record has been an intense journey for us. “The Last Fit” is the first complete song we’ve thrown out for others to hear and we hope you all enjoy it. Please feel free to share with your friends. There’s a lot more on the way, sooner than later.

Crash Mansion was a venue on the Bowery in New York City. My Uncle The Wolf has never had a steady line-up and has probably had over ten members since the band started. Crash Mansion is the only stage that all these members have rocked.

CM was an awesome club that was good to it’s live acts. The club itself was beautiful, bands always got paid, there was a crowd of regulars, the sound guy (Billy) was always cool and reliable, and best of all there was a backstage. All of these are rarities in the New York scene. Needless to say, every time The Wolf played there, the party was in the Green Room. I remember one time, we must’ve fit over 40 of our friends in the room: all either smoking cigs in defiance of Bloomberg or pounding back drinks, laughing and having an awesome time.

This video was from the last performance The Wolf had in Crash Mansion. Like so many other live music venues in the city, it fell victim to the pressures of operation and just went away. The past glories weren’t there this night. We had a good time and played well, but there was all sorts of bullshit going on. Security checked our cases during load in for god-knows-what and the place itself just had a sinking vibe to it. It’s fitting that we closed the show with “Carwreck’d and The Grenade Parade.”

For better or worse, My Uncle The Wolf always throws down and parties when it comes to live shows. The better half obviously being the Dionysian ecstasy of a wolf pack (see what I did there) howling at the moon together. The worse part being shooting yourself in the foot, being out of tune, forgetting the names of promoters who promise you future shows and the saddest of all: not using all your drink tickets.

The Wolf on St. Patrick’s Day was one of those better parties. Great vibes and great people on a great night. For better or worse, My Uncle The Wolf never plays the same song the same why twice. Out of all of /\/\|_|+\/\/’s songs, The Last Emperor probably has the most versions. We’ve been so far removed from playing this one, that listening back to it is pretty refreshing. Don’t be too hard on yourself kids, the creative force always know what’s up. Enjoy

Enough With The Trivia Already!!! “The Last Emperor” was one of the first tracks written and recorded for The Wolf’s second album FLUSH. The bass line and chord progressions were written by George after spending the weekend chasing witches while listening to Gnarls Barkley and Kanye’s 808’s and Heartbreak in Salem, Massachusetts. The Wolf originally released a shitty demo of the track called “Tobacco Bomb” for the ill fated mixtape series The Rounds.

The “/\/\|_|+\/\/ REWIND” was an idea started over a drunken conversation, while watching Nets/Pistons in the Barclays Center, between myself and ManDawg. /\/\|_|+\/\/ has put a fair amount of media on the interweb that like the band itself is crazy, ambiguous and hard to wrap your ahead around. The /\/\|_|+\/\/ REWIND is meant to remember past awesomeness, while adding a bit of clarity. Time to get the old shit out so we can bring in the new.

‘Barstow 66’ is a “LOVE” from the wolf’s second album FLUSH. Matt, our badass bassist, grew up on Wyckoff Street in downtown Brooklyn (sorry to rat you out like that bruuuuu). Wyckoff is a very chill street with great people living on it. Really, the best Brooklyn has to offer. So twice a year, the neighbors shut down the street for a block party. I don’t think the neighborhood expected us to come out tuned down to C and playing our brand of raucous rock/punk/blues/quantum jazz, but they still showed us love..the Brooklyn way.

One of the coolest memories of the show is how awesome everything sounded when reverberating off the rows of brick houses. I could feel the echo boom out for blocks. I have to apologize for the video being a bit off sync from the audio, please forgive me. Waiting for that check to clear!
